Concord Blue Biomass
It doesn’t look like much, but it’s a start.
Concord Blue Energy broke ground this week on its long-awaited biomass plant in the Eagar Industrial Park.
Geotechnical engineering for the plant has been completed — the only phase the company plans to complete this year.
The mechanical components for the bio-generating facility will be engineered and fabricated starting this winter, according to Scott Noll, vice president of project management at Concord Blue, which is based in Los Angeles, Calif.

Lebanon has started operating its downdraft gasification plant on Hartmann Drive that officials say will eventually divert more than 8,000 tons of waste going to landfills a year.
The approximate $3.5 million facility opened this week, according to Lebanon project manager Scott McRae, and will convert waste wood, tires and sewer sludge to electricity to help power the city’s wastewater treatment plant. A percentage of the converted waste also becomes a high carbon biochar to be recycled or sold for agricultural or industrial uses.
The Lebanon City Council approved a contract in 2015 with PHG Energy to build the plant, which now is operating on a limited basis with plans to “ramp up” in the coming months, McRae said.

Work is progressing at the city of Lebanon, Tennessee, waste-to-energy plant, and Field Rep. Evann Freeman from Sen. Lamar Alexander’s office recently visited the site to check in on progress.
The waste gasification plant was designed and is being built by PHG Energy, which constructed a similar plant in Covington, Tennessee. At the time of Freeman’s visit, construction on the support tower was underway, and completion of the project remains on track to allow for an October commissioning.
The biomass gasification plant will deploy what PHG Energy believes will be the world’s largest downdraft gasifier, eventually converting as much as 64 tons per day of wood waste, sewer sludge and used tires into up to 400 kilowatts of electricity for use at Lebanon’s waste-water treatment plant.

A recycling firm with an option to purchase a decommissioned waste-to-energy plant in New Hampshire is proposing a pilot business turning trash into electricity using a gasification process.
The Eagle Times reports D.B. Kazee, one of the four investors involved in the purchase of the Claremont Wheelabrator plant, on Wednesday outlined a five-year pilot recycling business.
Recycling Technologies Solutions of Lexington, Kentucky, placed a $575,000 winning bid on the former waste-to-energy incinerator earlier this year.

A ribbon cutting for the newly installed gasification system that will utilize wood waste in Scenic Park is set for 10:15 a.m. Friday.
Purchased using grant funds awarded by the TREES Heat Nebraska program, the project represents a step forward for community renewable energy, according to Adam Smith, Nebraska Forest Service products utilization team leader.
As the emerald ash borer parasite is predicted to invade Nebraska in the near future, the need for utilizing community wood waste is becoming more important, the city of South Sioux City said in a statement.

A demonstration of a $6.8 million Air Force waste-to-energy (WTE) project at Joint Base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii will showcase how gasification technology can convert 10 tons of waste per day into electricity.
Sponsored by Hawaii’s High Technology Development Corp., the demonstration will leverage WTE gasification system Turnw2e that process animal and crop wastes, cellulosic biomass, tires, non-recyclable plastics, and industrial waste.
The system has completed initial testing, and following more trials will generate liquid jet fuel from waste. Phase 1 of a microgrid project late this year will incorporate a gasifier.
